My Bus Peeps
Forgive this completely self-indulgent post, but since I began commuting to work by bus a year ago, I have observed the regulars on my buses and have given them stupid nicknames. I just feel the need to write all these nicknames down, especially if any of the bus regulars disappear (which happens from time to time). Names that have parenthesis next to them are ones that I can't decide what to call them. I'm a judgmental weirdo. Sitcom Starbucks Dad Hobo Lumberjack Phil Donahue Hot, But Sullen Waitress (I learned her name is Chesa or something.. what am I to do with an ACTUAL name??) Blue-Haired Girl Mr. Rochester Lou (Mario?) Scaley Arms Habitat for HotManity (Hottie for Humanity?) Smut-Reading Old Lady Mr. Jaywalker Adonis (Mayan Prince?) Crazy Lady Father and Son The Rocker Football Joe Perfume Death Seat-Shark Lo Xian There's a few more regulars that I haven't named yet, but I should come up with names. I can't read on the bus, so this is my entertainment. Current Mood: blah | | Friday, July 10th, 2009 | | 3:58 pm |
Random thoughts
This is probably just the flu talking, but.. I was pondering our obnoxious government and had a thought. So.. we have screwed up industries because all the industry leaders (whether it be the food industry or banking) are in bed with government, right? So there is no regulatin' going on, because of said bribery and grossness, right? Okay.. so.. what if there was a regulation industry? Like.. some big rich company, who the government paid as a private service to regulate other industries. Annd.. they OUTBRIBE the other industries, cause their whole job would be regulatin'? TAKE THAT, FDA!! I dunno... I'm gonna heat up more soup now.. ^^;; Current Mood: sick | | Sunday, June 14th, 2009 | | 9:10 pm |

I'm about to make myself (even more) unpopular...
Okay.. I've been meaning to write a real LJ entry for a while, but this is not it. This is just a rant I can't contain anymore. Why does everybody love zombies so much? I DON'T GET THE WHOLE ZOMBIE THING, which seems like it's gradually grown into the current big quirky nerd fad, following on the footsteps of ninjas and pirates. I DON'T GET IT!! What is the fascination? What makes them interesting? Admittedly I never had much interest in the horror genre, so maybe someone more experienced can inform me, but isn't it always the same story, over and over? People get attacked by zombies- they fight to survive, some live some get eaten. I can get why the survival story can be compelling, but zombies have got to be one of the most boring monsters ever. There's nothing to them- they're dead, ugly, eat brains.. sometimes move slowly with their hands out. Practically everyone I know is obsessed with zombies in some way, and I really really don't understand the fascination. So zombie fans, please tell me why you love zombies, because I don't get it, and I feel like I am the only one who doesn't get it. ______ EDIT: Alright, if you disagree, feel free to post your own feelings, but my one friend has explained zombie love to me and my understanding is this: zombies are like retarded people that we're allowed to make fun of/abuse/be afraid of. They're proxies for us to project our fear and hatred and humor and violence on to. I can understand that. I think I'm too analytical for zombies though. If you are frustrated at people and want to blow them away/mess with them, to me zombies are no longer people, thus it would have no cathartic effect for me. For freakin' real I can't complain enough about my lack of vacation days! This card sums it up so well! But in other news.. Sara and Sanghoon are coming 3 days!! Glaarrgghh I can't wait, save me from my dry, crusty existence! (and help me kill bugs in my apartment!) It is also Sakuracon next weekend. Unfortunately there are no guests or events I'm particularly interested in seeing this year, but I shall still have some fun. Also... so I guess I'm going to attempt to cosplay for the first time. I started making my hair accessories for my Kou Shuurei costume. But one thing I'm not sure is.. what do I do once I wear it? I guess just walk around? The skirts are really long and drag on the ground... so that's somewhat cumbersome.. I don't know. And also I'm not sure what to do about getting there. Bus and walking is the easiest way to get there (and thus, I don't have to pay for parking), but I am *NOT* riding the bus in costume. Should I get changed at the con? I'm all newb-tastic over here. Ugh.. I am dying for happy friend-love-woo time. Current Mood: Blarrgh!! | | Tuesday, March 10th, 2009 | | 9:06 pm |

Watch this if you care about dogs...
I randomly found a link to this hour-long BBC documentary on the dark side of pure-bred, pedigree dogs- namely arguing that many common dog breeds today are horrific mutants that are suffering severely due to inbreeding and appalling standards based solely on appearances with no regard to health. Admittedly some parts of this seem a little inflammatory (linking the Kennel Club to eugenics, which ultimately links to Hitler), but it's still very interesting and disturbing to see how so many people (who supposedly LOVE dogs) are supporting their devastation. I also think the most interesting part in this video is where it shows images of what many dog breeds looked like 60-some years ago, and how much more different and deformed the dogs of today look like. Anyway, here is the link. A warning to sensitive viewers: there are a few brief scenes of surgeries and dogs having seizures and shit. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=44215931Also.. what the hell people.. if your dog breed can no longer ACTUALLY BREED without artificial insemination... maybe it's time to fucking reevaluate!! AMAZING!!
Justin sent me this link the other day- it's a photo gallery of anime-themed bento lunches that some Japanese woman makes for her husband... and this shit be crazy. I just kept going through page after page, flipping out. Not only are they extremely detailed and well-made artistically, but the reference so many classic shows and movies. I mean, she made a bento of the TRAGIC DEATH SCENE at the end of the "Dog of Flanders" anime!! I mean, really! Also there's a Pleave Save My Earth bento in there, so my needs are met! http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/ymisako0405/GALLERY/gallery.html?fid=0&p=1 Current Mood: complacent | | Tuesday, January 13th, 2009 | | 12:08 pm |

Shtuff
I ordered the Shuurei costume over the weekend. :3 Hopefully the Chinese pull through and send me a costume that does indeed look like the picture and is not full of lead (I will restrain myself from licking the fabric regardless). I got into Christmas dork mode and bought a few decorations for my apartment. Got a 3-ft little fake tree with colored lights built in.. a mini stocking that I pinned above my fireplace (I wish I had a mantle).. and a freaking overpriced scented candle. I also bought 2 boxes of ornaments for said little tree, but then I forgot to buy hooks. -_-; I had to make sure I didn't buy too much considering I have so little storage space. So at work the project I am working on is pretty much wrapping up and I doubt the next project will really start forming until after the holidays. I'm flying home on the weekend of the 19th-20th. These next two weeks are going to be the longest 2 weeks of my life. -_- Also.. I took some gorgeous photos of my neighborhood that I've been planning to post to entice visits, but I haven't gotten a chance yet. Hopefully I will get them up soon. Nerd Vote: Cosplay Edition!!
So, as leather craftspeople nationwide fail to make my elf-geek dreams come true, I have turned to anime. I've always wanted to cosplay, but never had time to learn how to sew or had any sew-happy friends who could help me out. And so, small Asian children with delicate tiny hands have come to save the day! There are several online shops from China and Hong Kong which have tons of pre-made popular cosplay costumes which they'll custom make for you if you send them your measurements.. (and delicious American money). For a long time, they really only had the most popular costumes available (Naruto, Bleach, FF7 Advent Children), and I didn't have interest in these, as there are always a million people at cons dressed as those. I definitely wanted to cosplay as a unique and slightly less popular character/series that I admired. To my surprise, while browsing online, I found a few places that actually did carry costumes of two characters I really wanted to cosplay. Now the only problem is that they're a bit pricey (around $100 after all's said and done), so I know I should only get one. BUT WHICH ONE?! HELP ME DECIDE MY GEEK FATE!!! Here are the characters and descriptions... which shall I become!!? IT IS A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH!! (not really). It doesn't matter if you haven't seen the show.. (most of you on here probably haven't), but feel free to just put your two cents in on what looks cooler to you. ^^ ( Read more... ) Current Mood: contemplativeCurrent Music: "Time to Pretend" MGMT | | Sunday, November 30th, 2008 | | 6:57 pm |

Dumb Quick Rant
Okay. Everyone is tired of me babbling about putting together my dream renfest/fantasy "elf outfit" or whatever. *I'M* tired of it. But I have approached at least three different leather-Renfest-magic craft people about creating custom stuff for me and quite amazingly, all of these people NEVER get back to me, even after a few polite "are you still there? I still want to throw money at you" emails. Did you not hear me? I WANT TO THROW MONEY AT YOU. I actually have money to spend now! I actually know what design I want now! Look at me, eternally cheap-ass Robin, finally willing to blow possibly over $500 just to get this damn outfit so I no longer have an excuse to stop working on my shit at night to glaze over and stare at clothes on ebay and other websites for hours. What is wrong with these people?? Is my money DIRTY? TAKE MY DIRTY MONEY YOU WHORES, I WANT TO BE A GODDAMN PRETTY FOREST ELF LADY. GOD. I'M AN AWESOME COOK~! :D
So, I have not really done much cooking during my life. But now that I've been living alone and trying to eat healthy, I've done quite a bit more lately, and I have been really happy with my results. This week I totally winged it- I had a bunch of vegetables starting to go bad, so I had to cook them. I half sauteed, half steamed some garlic cloves with olive oil, broccoli, onions, yellow bell pepper, and mushrooms. I added some butter, salt, pepper, and a bit of some asiago caesar dressing I had. It came out great! Then today I cooked some thin spaghetti noodles and mixed those with the vegetables and some home-made alfredo sauce I bought from an Italian deli. OH MY GOD- it's the best thing I've ever made!! DELCIOUSNESS!!! WATCH ME IMPRESS MYSELF!!! XD /gloat Current Mood: accomplished | | Friday, October 24th, 2008 | | 11:48 pm |
Mooo!!! ;_;
So... Sanghoon and all of my best college friends were all reunited and hung out in Michigan tonight. Then they ate at my favorite Mexican place and talked and stuff. *I* meanwhile, came home from work.. ate leftovers alone in my apartment. Then I had a headache from working on a computer all week.. didn't really know what to do, cause I figured everything would make the headache worse. Then I wondered if I could take a different pain medication soon after taking an ineffective one. So I went on the computer. PHOTO DUMP: Part 1!! (trips)
This occurs only once in a few centuries- Robin somehow feels relaxed, yet motivated enough to actually post photos of shit on the internet. So, here is the first in some photos that maybe make up for me never posting anything about my life since I moved. This first set is some travel photos- the same weekend that I moved in to my apartment, my old high school friend Jamie was in town visiting Kiery. We all took a jolly day trip to Vancouver. Then, Labor Day weekend, Sanghoon came to visit, and we drove to Snoqualmie Falls- PERDY. Yaaaay, photo time. ( Read more... ) Current Mood: accomplished |
